The Chianti region is not only heaven to the wine enthusiast, but it offers a visit to a unique landscape defined by it’s irregular shaped vineyards and ancient olive groves, medieval hilltop villages, hidden castles and monasteries, with each corner hiding a special view of Tuscany countryside. With this in mind, this itinerary, winds through the rolling hills of the countryside, along a less travelled path.

First stop is a visit to Montefioralle, a charming Tuscan hill-top village and then on to the fortified medieval hamlet of Volpaia. Here we will enjoy a full typical Chianti experience, touring the small hamlet and the cellar of a wine producer consistently awarded by the Wine spectator. Along with a wine tasting, you will enjoy Tuscan Pecorino cheese and Bruschettta. After driving through Gaiole in Chianti, you will stop in Vertine, an enchanting medieval walled village.

Last stop will be at Badia a Coltibuono, a former 11th century monastery, which was eventually developed by Lorenzo De Medici, into a famous farmhouse-villa with gardens typical of Tuscany. Coltibuono is most popular in USA, for hosting a famous Tuscan culinary school run by Lorenza De Medici (no connection with the Renaissance De Medici family) author of many traditional Italian recipes.
